He's Back! Lou Scott out of retirement!

You may be forgiven if you missed this result from the Senior Olympics in Detroit on June 19:

                 Mens 1600 Meter Run
    Name Group Yr Time
  1 Lou Scott M 65-69 7:34.7
  2 George Gaines M 65-69 9:25.5

That's 1968 Olympian Lou Scott, who starred for Detroit Eastern in the early 1960s, and then racked up a decent career as a distance runner at Arizona State University. While in high school, Scott clocked a 4:11.3 mile in 1963 that lasted as a state record until Kevin Reabe broke it in 1970. His 1:54.3 for 880y that year was also a state record. In 1967 he won the silver in the 5000m at the Pan-Am Games, and the next year he ran in the 5000m in the Mexico City Olympic Games. He was also one of the early road racing stars, winning the AAU 25K while still in high school, and competing at Springbank, Michigan City, and a host of other classic Midwest road races.

Personal Bests: Mile – 4:04.9 (1964); 2 miles – 8:35.2 (1967); 5000 – 13:46.4 (1968).
