                             The Athletic.net Era

Athletic.net started in 2007 and gradually grew more robust in its storage
of Michigan results. Finding results for these years is not a top priority for
this project, but when we come across them, we will add them. We
will also gladly publish PDF results from timing companies!

Why?

Too much of our sport's history has been lost. It happens every time a school throws out a box of old track/XC files, every time an old coaches dies and their heirs throw their "junk" into a dumpster. Already, most of our pre-Athletic.net results are very difficult or impossible to find. This collection began as our own personal research trove, but the aim is to create a permanent place where old results can be found by anyone who wants to look something up, confirm a school record, or to dig through the history for themselves.

What's here?

All are PDF files listed by date. Original official results are included as much as possible. Also newspaper clippings of results, both the agate and the articles. Feature articles are sometimes included about key people in the sport's history. Out-of-state results are included if they involve Michigan athletes. Newsletters are here, if they offer something of worth to historians. We are also gathering end-of-season team booklets (from all years). And so on.

How To Use The Archive:

• Sometimes there are multiple versions of the same results (newspaper clippings, original results sheets, "officially published" results, etc.) If there are multiple versions, that means that they probably offer different information.
• Newspaper results and articles always include initials of the newspaper at the end of the title. A quick key to the most common ones: DN=Detroit News; DFP=Detroit Free Press; GRP=Grand Rapids Press; KG=Kalamazoo Gazette; FJ=Flint Journal; TCRE=Traverse City Record Eagle, etc.
• Newspaper results are listed by the date of the meet, not the date of publication.
• Result of multi-day meets are listed by the final date.
• Feature articles are listed by the date of publication.
• Some items, such as a end-of-year team booklet, a yearbook page about track or a collection of MITCA newsletters, are dated only with the year (ie. 1926 Highland Park yearbook).
• Download all you want! The more people download old results, the better chance our history has to survive for a long time!
• Can't find what you're looking for? Check back later. We still have dozens of boxes with thousands of results to scan. Lots more XC results are coming. On a good week, we add several hundred files.

How You Can Help!

• We need people to scan the old results files they have access to! From dual meets to state finals--you can check here to see what we already have.
• If you can't scan results but have an old box or 10 of results, etc, please contact me (jeffhollobaugh@gmail.com). I can rescue them and eventually get them scanned. It won't be fast (because job & life) but it will get done.
• This effort costs money both for web storage and the high-speed scanner I just bought, not to mention driving around the state to rescue files from retired coaches' garages! Your donations are tax-deductible.
